Giving Campaign Exceeds Goal

CHENEY, Washington - Eastern Washington University raised nearly $260,000 as part of its annual Giving Joy Day campaign to generate money for EWU student scholarships, exceeding its $250,000 goal.

The one-day campaign, which took place on the global day of giving known as #GivingTuesday, Nov. 28, was dedicated to sharing the impact of scholarship giving through the eyes of students and donors.

"This number reflects the tremendous generosity of our faculty, staff, and students as well as alumni and friends of EWU throughout the state and beyond," says EWU President Mary Cullinan.

University Advancement staff members utilized a creative social media campaign and also fanned out around the community to spread some joy and encourage participation in the mission to raise more scholarship dollars.

President Cullinan also noted the success of Giving Joy Day significantly helps the university in its goal to raise $5 million for scholarships over a three-year period.

Coming off the well-recognized consumer events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is held annually the fist Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the U.S. It is designed to encourage generosity as we head into the busy holiday season and inspire people to give back to important causes they support.
